Hey, y’all! We took a break from our Friday Faves last week while Caroline was in Nashville, but we are back now with a brand new edition. If you like what you see, click the image to be brought to its source. Happy Friday!!
Ally:
In love with this Ban.do work jacket. The simplicity of the design is so adorable, and it looks like the perfect weight for this time of year. Don’t you just love fall jackets and boots? Too bad that here in Cleveland, you really only get 3 weeks worth of wear out of them!
I am absolutely obsessed with Kacey Musgraves. I love her music, I love her style, I love her tough southern attitude. This shirt is one of the most frequently worn in my collection. I mean, look at this design. SO much cuter than the band tees I wore in high school.
So, it’s officially scary movie season! Walter and I are obsessed with horror movies and watch them all year long, so I have a blog post for next week about a bunch of my favorites to check out this Halloween season. I just watched Suspiria again (for the millionth time) and it is SO, SO, SO good, guys. Some of the most beautiful set design, costumes, and shots of any movie that I have ever seen. PLUS, there is a remake coming out soon and that way you can have some backstory. Look back next week for the rest of my spooky suggestions!
This three song EP released by Sunset Rollercoaster is in heavy rotation at my house as of late. “My Jinji” is my absolute favorite, I feel like it plays over and over again in my brain! I should have a new playlist out on the blog soon. I keep making half a playlist and then moving on to a new vibe. Just a little insight to how my brain works - ha!
Amazingly beautiful illustrations and hilariously witty content from Bojack Horseman designer, Lisa Hanawalt. This book is SUCH a well loved favorite in my household. Walter and I have both read it multiple times, and quote jokes from it fairly often. Lisa has another book out that I have yet to pick up, but since it is payday that is probably my next purchase.
Caroline:
I decided I am going to do my faves a little different this week. I am picking one book I just purchased for Grace and then 5 other books that I have on my list to get her and Violet next. You’ll sense a theme right away…
When we were in Nashville we went to the public library quite a few times because I wanted to see it if we are seriously considering Nashville as a place to move for our family. When we were at the Brentwood Library I came across this book and fell in love. I immediately went on Amazon and ordered a copy and it was waiting for us when we got home.
After watching the RBG documentary last night I cannot stop thinking about how amazing Ruth Bader Ginsburg is. I need to get Grace this book to start teaching her now about the power women have and the heights she can reach.
Obviously Grace can’t be the only feminist child in the house. We need to start Violet young!
With Grace being in school now and away from Ryan and I around other children and adults I would love to start the dialogue about consent and letting her know that she is the boss of her body. The description for this book is:
“A simple lesson about body boundaries appropriate for a wide range of ages. Finn goes to a party with family and friends. His parents encourage him to make his own choices about receiving and offering physical affection. At the end of the story, Finn waits for consent before holding the hand of his female best friend. C IS FOR CONSENT follows expert recommendations about letting kids make their own decisions regarding physical affection. The book teaches babies, toddlers, parents, and grandparents that it is okay for kids to say no to hugs and kisses, and that what happens to a person's body is up to them. This helps children grow up confident in their bodies, comfortable with expressing physical boundaries, and respectful of the boundaries of others. In sturdy board book format, with thoughtful discussion questions for older kids and caregivers.”
It sounds like a great introduction to the discussion for her and hopefully a way to bring it down to her level so she understands.
Going along with the topic of consent, I’d like to get her this book also so she knows the power of her “no”’s and that what she says goes when it comes to herself and her body.
Finally, another one for Violet…but looking through the pictures it looks like ones Grace might enjoy also! I love these books that showcase the amazing things women have accomplished.
That’s all for this weeks, folks. Tune in next week for another thrilling addition of…Friday Faves!
